Reining is a judged equestrian event, sometimes called “western dressage”. The horse is required to run through one of ten approved patterns, with the horse maneuvering through small slow circles, large fast circles, flying lead changes, roll backs over the hocks, 360 degree spins done in place, and sliding stops.

12 Αυγ 2024 · US Equestrian has announced a change to the U.S. Olympic Eventing Team prior to the start of competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Traveling reserve combination Liz Halliday and Cooley Nutcracker will move into the three-member team, replacing Will Coleman and Diabolo.
Equestrian events at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will showcase the partnership between horse and rider across three distinct disciplines: jumping, dressage and eventing. The events will take place from 27 July - 6 August , with individual and team medals awarded for each discipline.
Equestrian events originated in Ancient Greece, where it was thought that a perfect partnership was needed if rider and horse were to survive in battle. Dressage was therefore developed as a way of training horses for war. Equestrian events appeared at the ancient Olympic Games as chariot racing, which was a daring and exciting spectacle.
The sport of reining became an FEI-recognized discipline in 2000, and FEI-sanctioned reining competitions are held across the world, including at the World Equestrian Games. In 2011, USA Reining was established to serve as the reining sport affiliate for the USEF and FEI competition structure in the United States.
