Oran (Arabic: وَهران, romanized: Wahrān) [a] is a major coastal city located in the northwest of Algeria. It is considered the second most important city of Algeria, after the capital, Algiers , because of its population and commercial, industrial and cultural importance.

L'empire almohade qui domine le Maghreb plusieurs décennies s'émiette peu à peu pour finalement donner naissance à trois dynasties locales : Hafsides en 1230, Zianides en 1235 et Mérinides en 1258. Oran devient Zianide dès 1228, quand elle tombe entre les mains de Yaghmurasen.
