A switch to a federal charter in 1985 added Federal to its name.. Addition Financial was founded in 1937 by a group of 23 educators who aimed to create a better financial alternative to what the banks were offering. When it was first established, the credit union was named Orange County Teachers Federal Credit Union, as it served educators in Orange County Public Schools at that time.
Developed jointly in 2003 by SchoolsFirst FCU and the Orange County Department of Education, the Education Foundation — a nonprofit organization that provides grants for educational programs that support core curriculum — expanded in 2019 to serve all of California. LEARN MORE.

They were unsatisfied with the financial services they were getting from area banks and formed a credit union to provide better services to teachers in the Orange County school system.
