The stunning 2,500-acre Callaway Gardens resort, complete with beautiful gardens, lakes, golf courses and lodging, adjoins the lively Pine Mountain, Georgia community just a few blocks from the center of town.
The park contains the 23-mile (37 km) long Pine Mountain Trail, a scenic nature path that winds through both hardwood and pine forests, featuring hickory and several species of oak; forest undergrowth includes buckeye, pawpaw, azalea, blueberry and huckleberry.
Several park amenities were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, including cottages and the Liberty Bell Swimming Pool fed by cool springs. A wooded campground sits near the edge of a small fishing lake, and privately operated stables offer guided horseback rides.
Pine Mountain Trail. This lovely and well-maintained trail is rated one of the best systems in Georgia, built and maintained by the Pine Mountain Trail Association. Designed for maximum enjoyment of both the day and overnight hiker, this trail is one of the jewels of the Georgia State Park System. The trail system contains almost 40 miles.
