Soft plastics, plastic films, plastic bags and wrapping, flexible plastics – whatever you call them; these can now be recycled at your local supermarket. Out of 311,000 tonnes of plastic wrapping that is placed on our shelves, only 6% is recycled.
We throw away around 290,000 tonnes of plastic bags and wrapping every year in the UK. This material makes up nearly a quarter of consumer packaging, yet only 6% is recycled.
23 Αυγ 2021 · From today, shoppers at all of Tesco’s large stores will be able to bring back any soft plastic packaging for recycling. The supermarket expects to collect more than 1000 tonnes a year and will recycle as much of this material as possible back into products and packaging sold in Tesco stores.
