January 18-25. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has a history of over 100 years , in which Christians around the world have taken part in an octave of prayer for visible Christian unity. By annually observing the WPCU, Christians move toward the fulfillment of Jesus' prayer at the Last Supper "that they all may be one." (cf. John 17:21)
17 Ιαν 2024 · Today, Thursday, January 18, begins the Octave for the Unity of the Entire Catholic Church, approved by Pope Saint Pius X in 1909 and encouraged in the same form for the next five decades. It is now a recommended annual devotion leading up to the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul on January 25.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity began in 1908 as the Octave of Christian Unity, and focused on prayer for church unity. The dates of the week were proposed by Father Paul Wattson, co-founder of the Graymoor Franciscan Friars.
