The launch of the WHO Commission on Social Connection signals the start of a three-year global effort to mobilize awareness, action and much-needed support for the solutions to tackle social isolation and loneliness.
This article provides an organizing framework for conceptualizing social connection and summarizes the cumulative evidence supporting its relevance for health, including epidemiological associations, pathways, and biological mechanisms.
