The Red-tailed Hawk is adaptable and useful in modern falconry. It is a powerful and sturdy falconry bird best flown at larger ground quarry such as squirrels, rabbits, and jackrabbits. Occasionally, the Red-tailed Hawk may even take a pigeon, crow, or duck.
There are several different breeds available, such as Red-tailed Hawks and Harris’s Hawks, each with its unique characteristics and prices, but below is an average of what I found the cost to be. Red-Tailed Hawk – $500 to $1,500
Red-tailed Hawks are large hawks with typical Buteo proportions: very broad, rounded wings and a short, wide tail. Large females seen from a distance might fool you into thinking you’re seeing an eagle.
Chase is a very tall bird with beautiful adult plumage. Red Tails are one of the most common birds of prey in the United States and can be found in almost every ecosystem in North America. Chase is used predominantly in our Introduction to Falconry and our Walk with Hawks programs.
