The gap spec on the plugs for the 912 series engine is in the Line Maint. manual. Section 13.2.2. Gapping out to .035 will give a poor spark, may lead to an incomplete combustion, hard starts, poor fuel economy and inaccurate mag drop numbers.

The plugs can be removed using a standard 16mm spark plug socket. The standard gap is 0.6 - 0.7mm with a wear limit of 0.9mm. You need to apply the correct thermal transfer compound to the threads and then torque to 20Nm (177in.lb).
3.2.1) Inspection of spark plug gap measurement Due to the curved gap between the center electrod e and the ground electrodes, it is suggested to use a wire type feeler gauge for accurate gap measurement.
The Spark-Plug Gap. One of the key factors that make a spark plug work well, or not, is the size of the gap between the electrodes. If the gap is too small, the spark will likely be too weak and cause the engine to run poorly or with poor efficiency.
Spark plug connectors Check that resistance spark plug connectors fit tightly every 200 hr. on the spark plugs. Minimum pull-off force is 30 N (7 lb). Effectivity: 912 Series 05-20-00 Edition 3 / Rev. 1 page 15 January 01/2013...
Because of the differing thermal load, particular spark plugs have been specified for each engine type.
