Russian captured 98k from WWII. updated 2/9/2015. The following Nazi 98k rifles are RUSSIAN CAPTURES in EXCELLENT external condition with either laminated (or, infrequently) solid-walnut buttstocks as-noted (some having visible Nazi cartouches on the right side of the wood).

A Russian capture is the most commonly commercially available K-98k in the United States. The Russians “refurbished” these captured rifles after the war re-bluing the metal and refinishing the wood with a kind of deeply stained shellac.
The electro-penciled bolt and the X on the left side of the receiver are indicators of a Russian-captured weapon. During World War II, the Soviet Union captured millions of Mauser Karabiner 98k rifles and re-furbished them in various arms factories in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
