OUR COMPANY. Established in the Philippines in 1890, La Fabrica de Cerveza San Miguel and later renamed San Miguel Brewery, Inc., Southeast Asia’s first brewery, produced and bottled what would eventually become one of the best-selling beers in Asia, San Miguel Beer.
San Miguel Brewery, Inc. (SMBI) is a subsidiary of San Miguel Food and Beverage, Inc. (part of San Miguel Corporation) and jointly owned with Kirin Holdings Co. Ltd. The company is the Philippines’ largest brewery with a market share of over 95% as of 2008, notably producing San Miguel Beer (San Miguel Beer). [2]
San Miguel Food and Beverage (formerly San Miguel Pure Foods Company) is the largest food and beverage company in the Philippines. The company was incorporated in 1956 as Pure Foods Corporation, a manufacturer of processed meats marketed under the Purefoods brand name.
Early History. Don Enrique Ma Barretto de Ycaza established the brewery, southeast Asia's first, in 1890 as La Fabrica de Cerveza de San Miguel. He named the company after the section of Manila in which he lived and worked. He was soon joined by Don Pedro Pablo Roxas, who brought with him a German brewmaster.
San Miguel Brewery was renamed San Miguel Corporation in 1964; the brewery was spun off in 2007 and became a subsidiary of San Miguel Food and Beverage. San Miguel Pilsen is the largest selling beer in the Philippines and Hong Kong. It is known in Chinese markets as 生力啤酒.
Realizing China’s huge growth potential, the company set up a brewery in Hebei Province, China to gain presence in the north region. San Miguel Baoding Brewery Ltd. (SMBB) was established by San Miguel (China) Investment Co. Ltd. PRC (with 70% stake) and partner Hebei Bada Group Co., Ltd.
