From 1996 to 2004, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame inducted writers and editors of fantasy and science fiction. As the Science Fiction Hall of Fame from 2005 to 2012, it inducted people for their contributions to science fiction Literature; Art; and Film, Television and Media.
A life achievement honour (see Awards) inaugurated in 1996 by the Kansas City SF and Fantasy Society and the J Wayne and Elsie M Gunn Center for the Study of Science Fiction at the University of Kansas, as the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame, with both sf and fantasy authors eligible.

The Science Fiction Hall of Fame was founded in 1996 by the Kansas City Science Fiction and Fantasy Society, and by the Center for the Study of Science Fiction at the University of Kansas (which supervises the Campbell and Sturgeon Memorial Awards). Four individuals are honored each year, usually (through 2010) two living and two posthumous.
