23 Ιουλ 2024 · Skim coats can range from a featheredge to approximately 1/4" (0.6 cm) for large areas and up to 1" (2.5 cm) for small fill areas. The required thickness will impact the overall quantity needed. Additionally, it is always a good idea to add a buffer to your calculations to account for any wastage, uneven surfaces, or unexpected requirements.
24 Μαρ 2023 · How thick should a skim coat be? A skim coat should be applied in thin, even layers. Each layer should be no more than 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick. Applying the joint compound too thickly can result in an uneven finish and longer drying times. If needed, it's better to apply multiple thin layers rather than a single thick layer.
SUPRACOAT SKIM COAT is applied using a steel trowel and will remain workable for approximately 60 minutes after mixing depending on surrounding condi-tion. It can be finished with soft hair brush or trowelled smooth. The recommended application thickness is between 1–3 mm.
