Although the procedures are more relaxed than in traditional courts, you still must follow the rules to prevail.
Sometimes called “the people’s court,” small claims court is for cases involving claims of less than $10,000. Cases can be decided quickly and economically in small claims court where hearings are informal and you do not need a lawyer.

The small claims hearing is informal, allowing most people to represent themselves. The small claims court has limited jurisdiction , meaning it can only hear certain types of claims.
