This page explores the types of Georgia social work licenses and requirements, how long it takes to become a social worker, and a list of the accredited programs in Georgia.
In Georgia, social workers can pursue licensure at two primary levels: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW): Requires an MSW and passing the ASWB Master’s exam. Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW): Requires an MSW, additional supervised clinical experience, and passing the ASWB Clinical exam.
Before becoming a social worker in Georgia, you must obtain a master’s-level education in social work and a social work license, depending on what career path you choose. Georgia offers two types of social work license: LMSW and LCSW.
In Georgia, a social worker can apply for licensure as a Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
If you would like to apply for a professional license as a Clinical Social Worker (CSW), it is required that you file an application with the Secretary of State. Once issued, all licenses have a common expiration date of September 30th of even numbered years.
