13 Μαρ 2023 · Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) is a recently defined diagnosis in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-5). It is the manifestation of one or more physical symptoms accompanied by excessive thoughts, emotion, and/or behavior related to the symptom, which causes significant distress and/or dysfunction.[1]
14 Μαΐ 2024 · Somatic symptom disorder is characterized by one or more somatic symptoms that are accompanied by excessive thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors related to the somatic symptoms [1,2]. In addition, the symptoms cause significant distress and/or dysfunction. The somatic symptoms may or may not be explained by a recognized medical condition.
Somatic symptom disorder is diagnosed when a person has a significant focus on physical symptoms, such as pain, weakness or shortness of breath, to a level that results in major distress and/or problems functioning.
Somatic symptom disorder, also known as somatoform disorder, or somatization disorder, is defined by one or more chronic physical symptoms that coincide with excessive and maladaptive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors connected to those symptoms.
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) replac- es somatoform disorders with somatic symptom and related disorders and makes significant changes to the criteria to eliminate overlap across the somatoform disorders and clarify their boundaries.
