Insane Clown Posse, often abbreviated as ICP, is an American hip hop duo. Formed in Detroit in 1989, ICP's best-known lineup consists of rappers Violent J (Joseph Bruce) and Shaggy 2 Dope (originally 2 Dope; Joseph Utsler).

Commonly known as ICP. A multi-platinum selling rap group formed in 1989 in Southwest Detroit, Michigan known for their violent lyrics and elaborate live shows. Originally formed under the name "Inner City Posse", they were forced to change it after various conflicts with local gangs for releasing tracks claiming they "ran Detroit".
Juggalo gangs are a group using the name and associated imagery from Juggalo culture, dedicated fans of the hip hop group Insane Clown Posse or any other Psychopathic Records artist.

Previous to their transformation, ICP stood for Inner City Posse and was an extension of a gang which VIOLENT J and SHAGGY 2 DOPE started in Southwest Detroit. Back then, the group had about 15 people and did straight gangster rap as heard on their '91 debut DOG BEATS.
The gangs who specifically were located in Southwest Detroit were brought in by Chicago residents. One such violent gang called Latin Kings were very prominent in this area that in the early year of 1993 Detroit press reported 43 indictments of Latin count members.
