The St. Croix River (/ ˈseɪnt ˈkrɔɪ / SAYNT KROY; French for 'Holy Cross') [3] is a tributary of the Mississippi River, about 169 mi (272 km) long, [4] in the U.S. states of Wisconsin and Minnesota. The lower 125 mi (201 km) of the river form the border between Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Saint Croix River, tributary of the Mississippi River, rising in Douglas county, Wisconsin, U.S., in the northwestern part of the state. It flows 164 miles (264 km) southwestward into the Mississippi River at Prescott, Wisconsin, about 20 miles (32 km) south of St. Paul, Minnesota.
