The attorney general of California is the state attorney general of the government of California. The officer's duty is to ensure that "the laws of the state are uniformly and adequately enforced" (Constitution of California, Article V, Section 13).
Overseeing more than 5,600 lawyers, investigators, sworn peace officers, and other employees, the Attorney General: Represents the People of California in civil and criminal matters before trial courts, appellate courts and the supreme courts of California and the United States.
