Steed is a secret agent working for an unnamed branch of British intelligence. The Avengers is a British espionage television series that aired from 7 January 1961 to 21 April 1969. It initially focused on David Keel (Ian Hendry), [5] aided by John Steed (Patrick Macnee). Ian Hendry left after the first series; Steed then became the main character, partnered with a succession of assistants.
From 1961 to 1969 John Steed had six different partners, two male and four female partners. Four of them worked with him for a longer period: Dr. Keel, Dr. Catherine Gale, Emma Peel and Tara King.
Dr. Catherine " Cathy " Gale is a fictional character played by Honor Blackman, on the 1960s British series The Avengers. She was the first regular female partner of John Steed, following the departure of Steed's original male co-star, Dr David Keel (played by Ian Hendry).

Hendry’s character Dr Keel was replaced by a new partner for Steed, a woman, Cathy Gale, played by Honor Blackman. The casting was perfect and the approach was revolutionary.
