The Sylvania Fire Department provides fire protection, rescue services, hazardous materials handling and first response to medical calls within the city limits. The Fire Department is staffed by seven full-time firefighters supported by 25 volunteers and carries an ISO rating of Class 2.

Fire Marshal Shane Hillard was appointed to the Sylvania Fire-EMS Department on May 19, 2000. Upon being appointed he spent most of his service time as a firefighter/paramedic at stations 61 and 64. In April 2017 he became the department’s full-time Fire Safety Inspector.
