Torta de Santiago (in Galician) or Tarta de Santiago (in Spanish), literally meaning cake of St. James, is an almond cake or pie from Galicia with its origin in the Middle Ages and the Camino de Santiago. [1]

22 Ιουλ 2021 · The first news from something similar to this Spanish almond cake is from 1577, when Pedro do Porto visited Santiago university and tried the “torta real” which was had similar ingredients to what we know now as tarta de Santiago. The first recipes are from Bartolomé de Leybar in 1838.
It is known that this recipe was first made in 1577 by the clergyman Pedro de Portocarrero, who called it “Torta Real”. It was not until centuries later, in 1838, when the original recipe was found in a recipe notebook, that it was called tarta de Santiago.
