The VLB Veterans Land Loan Program is the only one of its kind in the nation, giving Texas Veterans and Military Members the opportunity to borrow up to $150,000 to purchase land at competitive interest rates while typically requiring a minimum five percent down payment for tracts of one acre or more.
Spurred by returning World War II veterans, the Legislature established the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) in 1946 to continue this tradition by providing Texas veterans with long-term, low-interest land loans. Today, the VLB oversees five veterans programs.
Created by the Texas Legislature in 1946, the board was established to make land available to veterans returning from World War II. Today, the organization finances land, home loans and home improvement loans for Texas veterans and active military members who are eligible under VLB requirements.
What is the difference between the Texas Veterans Land Board and the Department of Veterans Affairs? The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is a federal agency, whereas the Texas Veterans Land Board is a state program part of the Texas General Land Office.
The Type I Forfeited Land Sale is available only to Veterans and the Type II Program is open to the general public. We provide our veterans with access to land, home and home improvement loans that allow them to own their very own piece of Texas.
