A model of the S. E. 5A will be a stable and safe model—so stable, in fact, that it can be flown very successfully with single- channel R/C equipment controlling only the rudder.
Over the summer I came across an old 1970's Topflite S.E.5a kit designed by Dave Platt and snatched it up. My plan is to build it as electric. This was a hard choice for me because I almost wanted to do a time capsule build. It was really on the fence about this.

At the best lift-to-drag ratio airspeed, the excess-thrust (36.7oz) to weight (126.8oz) ratio is 0.29:1, which will give strong climbs and rapid acceleration. This model will most likely readily loop from level flight, and have sufficient in-flight thrust for many aerobatic maneuvers.
