The only variation was that Windows Search had to be double clicked to open up a dialogue box that allowed Automatic to be selected from a list of about four options.

Everyone hates Bing, nobody wants this here, but there is no setting in windows options to remove Bing from the start menu (even after disabling Bing from Search toolbar, browser, etc.) the Bing Chat buttons still remain in the start menu's search functionality right at the top.
From the list, select the extension related to the Yahoo Redirect virus and click on the Gear icon. Click Uninstall. If it doesn't work try to restore the edge from scratch. Click on the Menu and select Settings. In the left sidebar, select Reset settings. Select Reset settings to default values. Confirm with Reset.

Disable Search Suggestions: In the settings menu, find the option that says “See search suggestions as you type”. Uncheck this option.
