Unemployment is a situation in which the person is capable of working both physically and mentally at the existing wage rate, but does not get a job to work. In other words unemployment is a situation in which a person who is willing to work at the existing wage rate does not get a job. Unemployment is a reason for alarming concern in India today.

The unemployment rate is the most often used indicator of unemployment. It is computed by dividing the total labour force by the number of individuals without jobs. There are different types of unemployment, including institutional, structural, cyclical, and frictional. It estimates India’s unemployment rate in India is around 7.7% at present.
Disguised unemployment aka hidden unemployment refers to a situation where labour that is employed but he/she is not utilised for the production of goods and services. It does not contribute to the output of an economy as their marginal product is zero (contribution to production is nil).
