12 Απρ 2019 · Genesis 2:18–24 is the foundational passage in Scripture about marriage. God created and officiated marriage for his unfallen creation, and “the root of our understanding of marriage is that, in it, the husband and wife become one flesh” (p. 18).
Christians believe marriage is a partnership of love made deeper through sex. Jesus acknowledged this in the Bible book, Matthew, when he said, ‘ for this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.

Christian marriage is based on promises, not feelings, and on sacrificial love, not romantic love. It is also centered on Jesus Christ, who is the model of faithful and selfless love.
The biblical view of marriage is of a God-given, voluntary, sexual and public social union of one man and one woman, from different families, for the purpose of serving God.
God designed marriage as a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman for their mutual joy, the good of society, and the procreation of children. Marriage ultimately displays the glory and grace of God by picturing the unbreakable relationship between Christ and his church.
