The tree is actually closely related to the walnut and hickory plants. It grows across much of the state, and was always a food source for people living in the Americas.
The Texas state tree is the pecan tree, which is native to Texas and northern Mexico. It grows both in the wild and in orchards where pecan nuts are cultivated. Texas produces more pecans than any other state except Georgia and New Mexico.
1 Ιουλ 1995 · State Tree. The pecan was made the official state tree of Texas by an act of the Thirty-sixth Legislature in regular session, 1919. Acts of the Fortieth Legislature, 1927, confirmed the choice.
