Unemployment Insurance is temporary income for eligible workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. Apply the first week that you lose your job. If you are eligible, you will be paid for all benefits from that date forward. You must certify your eligibility for benefits weekly online or over the phone to receive benefits.
If you receive New York State workers' compensation, but you are available and physically able to work, you may be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits. However, this may reduce your weekly unemployment benefit rate.
You can apply for Unemployment Insurance either on our website at unemployment.labor.ny.gov or toll-free by phone at (888) 209-8124 during the hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. The best way to file is online.
