This article lists divisions of the Wehrmacht (German Armed Forces) and Waffen-SS active during World War II, including divisions of the Heer (army), Luftwaffe (air force), and the Kriegsmarine (navy).
This is a list of German military units during World War II which contains all military units that served with the German Armed Forces (Wehrmacht). Major units above corps level are listed here. However, the increasingly stringent requirements of the Russian campaign forced changes in the organization of the Wehrmacht units, which reflected the military conditions of the battles on the Eastern Front.

The best infantry units in the 1944 German Army were the parachute divisions, administratively under the Luftwaffe but tactically always subordinated to Army command. Until the fall of 1943 German airborne forces comprised only one corps with two parachute divisions.
During WWII, each separate branch was referred to as being an arm of the German military. For example, the Luftwaffe (Air Force) was an arm of the large Wehrmacht (Army), as were the Heer (Land Force), the Waffen-SS (Armed Guard), and the Kriegsmarine (Navy).
12 Μαΐ 2021 · These units were referred to as Teileinheit (T.E.) (component units), which was added to the front of their number. As the war progressed and Germany was facing manpower shortages, many units had their organization adjusted to increase the overall fighting strength of the German Army.
