Three types of amazing 'heavenly beings' are described in the Bible. They don't sound like anything that we'd normally think of as 'angels'! These beings are the Seraphim or Seraphs, Cherubim or Cherubs & The Four Living Creatures. Each have important roles in heaven serving God.

Cherubim, as guardians of divine sanctity and intermediaries of God's presence, remind us of the majesty and mystery of God. Seraphim, as fiery worshippers and agents of purification, call us to recognize the transformative power of encountering God's holiness.
Seraphim and Cherubim are spirit beings that reside in the spiritual realm, not the embodied terrestrial world. These descriptions are metaphors that tell us about the role or function of the spirits.

Tradition places seraphim in the highest rank in Christian angelology and in the fifth rank of ten in the Jewish angelic hierarchy.
