Northwest Airlines (often abbreviated as NWA) was a major airline in the United States that operated from 1926 until it merged with Delta Air Lines in 2010. [1] The merger made Delta the largest airline in the world until the American Airlines–US Airways merger in 2013. [2] [3]

Northwest Airlines was a major United States airline which existed from 1926 until 2010, when it merged with Delta Air Lines and became part of Delta Air Lines' fleet. At the time of the merger, it had a total of 309 aircraft.
Northwest Airways took off in 1926, with a couple of rented biplane carrying sacks of mail and the hopes of 11 employees and 29 investors. By the time it merged with Delta in 2008, Northwest Airlines carried the most passengers across the Pacific and was a top cargo carrier in the United States.

The following month, after the U.S. Department of Justice declared that it did not have any antitrust objections, Delta completed its $2.8 billion acquisition of Northwest.
