I just checked in for a US to Canada flight 23 hrs ahead of departure and it won’t let me choose a seat. Instead, I’ve been issued a boarding pass with SBY. Should I be worried about being bumped?
If you check-in online and get your boarding pass electronically, and you skip the airport kiosk and check-in counter and proceed directly to the gate, you WILL need to approach the gate ahead of boarding to present your passport, assuming it's an international flight. They need a minute or two to run it through the system.
The flight is domestic in Canada loaded up vaccine info and it accepted it and no negative covid test needed. I had the same thing and I was able to print the boarding pass at the kiosk. If it’s a domestic flight then you’ve likely selected for additional security screening.
If you have the Air Canada app it actually just saves them offline on your device. You can try it out by checking on the app, getting the boarding passes. Kill the app, turn on airplane mode and launch it again.
I only ever check in online and get mobile boarding passes, and even when travelling to countries that require visas I've never had doc check prevent me from checking in. I just go to the gate preemptively and get my doc check done before I board.
