4 Answers: It should be possible to generate suitable tiles for MemoryMap EuropeanEdition versions 5 and above using OSM data, but I have not succeeded. This is the version of the software which can be used with UK Ordnance Survey StreetView Tiles.

Thousands of users around the world continually add to and edit the map, but what goes on behind the scenes? When you or any other user makes changes using editing software such as JOSM or iD, the software communicates with a central OpenStreetMap server and notifies it of your changes.
I was simply wondering what DBMS was used to store OSM data. By entering such a question on Google, you get so many informations on how to extract data and import them into various DBMS, but no basic information (just for curious guys) about the way data are stored.
28 Αυγ 2011 · Maperitive can use .OSM files directly to render maps (you can simply drag and drop it into the application). It also supports .osm.bz2 and .osm.pfb formats. But as @mattwigway says, you won't be able to consume the whole Planet file (it's huge!).
